PrimeTime Puts Foot on Gas, Throttles Fayetteville in Season Finale
June 11, 2012 - Tobacco Road Basketball League (TRBL)
PrimeTime Players News Release
The PrimeTime Players put the finishing touches on a season-long eleven game winning streak on Saturday night by achieving all sorts of new team records in a 174-134 dismantling of the Fayetteville Crossover.
After an anemic weekend of shooting in last weekend's home finale double-header PrimeTime righted the ship in Fayetteville, knocking down 55% of their shots, including 31 three-pointers.
PrimeTime (11-1) welcomed back 21-year old Jaime Vaughn, who hadn't been with the team since the season opener in Wilmington while he finished up his senior year at Wingate University. Vaughn certainly looked happy to be back with the team as he scored a league-record 50 points in the contest.
Vaughn would only hold the league record by himself for a short time before fellow PrimeTime Player Antonio Houston reached the 50 point mark himself. Houston's performance elevated him to the league scoring title as he finished the season averaging 27.2 points per game.
Malachai Jones continued his recent phenomenal form for PrimeTime, tallying 18 points and 22 rebounds. Jones finished the season with the second-highest field goal percentage in the league at 58.1%.
Terrell Smith notched 30 points and Donald Rutherford added 22 for the Players.
Ray McKeithan led the way for Fayetteville (5-7) with 27 points, while three other players scored in the twenties.
PrimeTime will host the same Crossover team on Friday night at The Pointe in the semi-finals of the league playoffs. Should the Players advance, the championship game would be Saturday evening.
