Pries Plays Hero as Ducks Walk-Off Bowie 6-5

Summary

Micah Pries plays hero with the third straight two-strike, two-out hit to help the Akron RubberDucks rally from two down in the ninth to walk-off the Bowie Baysox 6-5 on Tuesday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Entering the ninth inning down 5-3, Akron looked to rally back. With runners on first and second and two outs, Brayan Rocchio fought off eight pitches before singling on the ninth pitch of the at-bat to score Daniel Schneemann to cut the lead to 5-4 Bowie. Bryan Lavastida followed with a line drive to right to score Angel Lopez to tie the game. Then Micah Pries lined a 1-2 pitch past the diving left fielder to score Rocchio and give Akron the 6-5 win.

Mound Presence

Jaime Arias got the start for Akron and started off hot retiring the side in order in the first. Bowie got to Arias in the third for four runs including a three-run home run to end the left-hander's night. Robert Broom followed with two and third scoreless innings striking out three. Aaron Pinto tossed two innings allowing one run. Randy Labaut followed with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.

Duck Tales

Akron started the scoring in the first when Jhonkensy Noel lined a single into center field to score Rocchio and Lavastida to make it 2-0 Ducks. After Bowie put up four in the fourth, the RubberDucks answered back with a run in the fifth on a RBI single by Lavastida to make it 4-3 Baysox.

Notebook

The walk-off win marked the second straight 6-5 walk-off win over Bowie at Canal Park...Between Rocchio, Lavastida and Pries, the RubberDucks were down to their final strike five times in the ninth...Game Time: 2:59...Attendance: 2,931.

On the Pond

The RubberDucks will continue their series with the Bowie Baysox on Wednesday, August 10 at 6:35 p.m. at Canal Park. Right-handed pitcher Gavin Williams (1-3, 1.98 ERA) will take the mound for Akron against Bowie righty Garrett Stallings (5-8, 6.95 ERA).
