New Jersey Pride News Release
CLIFTON - The New Jersey Pride, the Garden State's only professional lacrosse team, announced today that the team has acquired midfielder Kevin Boland from the Chicago Machine for a third-round selection in the 2007 MLL Collegiate Draft. That pick, depending on the order of finish in the 2006 season, can be no higher than No. 21 overall.
"Kevin is a guy who is a creator in the midfield, and he has played with a lot of the guys on our team before,'' said Pride General Manager Trey Reeder. "He's a good talent and we think he can help us.''
Boland has played in all six games this season for the Machine, scoring three goals and assisting on three others. He has also picked up nine ground balls this season.
He was the 17th overall selection in the 2004 MLL Collegiate Draft by the Baltimore Bayhawks out of Johns Hopkins University, but played sparingly for the Bayhawks the last two seasons. In 2005, he scored two goals and assisted on three others.
"You can never have enough guys who can create in the midfield and dump the ball off to some big scorers like Jesse Hubbard, Scott Urick, Adam Doneger and A.J. Haugen,'' Reeder said. "Kevin gives us another option in that area, and not having to give up a player of our own to get one of his talent is a win for us.''
In 2004, Boland was named the MLL Cascade Rookie of the Week in Week 11, and collected nine assists while picking up six ground balls that year.
Tickets to the Pride's final two remaining home games on July 8 (Mercer County Park) and August 5 (Rutgers) can be purchased by calling the Pride office at (973) 614-1792.
