Philadelphia Barrage News Release

PORTLAND, August 9, 2008 - After a week filled with lacrosse camps and tournaments as part of MLL PDX, it was only fitting that Saturday's game between the New Jersey Pride and Philadelphia Barrage went into overtime. In front of 3,687 at Hillsboro Stadium, the New Jersey Pride (6-6) finished .500 for the first time since 2003 as they defeated the Philadelphia Barrage (7-5) 17-16 in overtime. Pride Attackman Matt Rewkowski's (2 goals, 1 assist) goal with 5:42 left in the extra set sent the crowd into a euphoric craze, and capped off an exciting week for MLL PDX.

At first, it seemed like the Barrage would run away with the victory. Attackman Jed Prossner (4 goals, 1 assist) scored two first quarter goals as Philadelphia raced to a 7-1 lead. However, the Pride countered and trimmed the Barrage lead to 11-8 by halftime. Midfielder Stephen Peyser (4 goals) scored two second quarter goals during New Jersey's turnaround.

Both clubs would trade goals during the entire third period, giving Philadelphia a 14-11 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Pride scored four of the first five goals to tie the game at 14 with 5:41 left in regulation. Barrage attackman Ryan Boyle (1 goal, 3 assists) scored with 5:07 left to break the tie and give the Barrage the 15-14 advantage.

New Jersey once again showed its resiliency as attackman Chris Unterstein (1 goal, 1 assist) knotted the game at 15 with 3:55 to play.

In the extra set, Rewkowski scored the game winner with 5:42 left to cap off New Jersey's third straight win to end the 2008 season.

Also leading the way for New Jersey was attackman Merrick Thompson (4 goals, 1 assist) and attackman Matt Danowski (2 goals, 1 assist).

For the Barrage, midfielders Matt Striebel (4 goals, 2 assists) and Justin Smith (2 goals) also turned in stellar individual performances.

The Barrage will now play on August 23rd during Major League Lacrosse's NB Zip Championship Weekend at Harvard Stadium in Boston, Massachusetts.
