USSSA Pride News Release
Kissimmee, FL - USSSA's 2016 draftee class is unreal to say the least. With the announcement of the Big 12 postseason honors, seven of our draftees have been recognized in their respective conferences'.
For the third year in a row, Big Ten's Player of the Year award belongs to Michigan's Sierra Romero, making Sierra the second player in Big 10 history to earn the honor three times. Romero was also selected All-Big Ten first team and is one of ten finalists for the 2016 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award.
In her senior season, Romero has led the Big 10 in four offensive categories: batting average (.485), slugging percentage (.947), on-base percentage (.600) and RBI (70). Sierra also recently broke the NCAA record with 294 career runs.
In the CAA Conference, Erica Field has earned a similar honor earning Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive year and a spot on the All-CAA first team. This season, Erica set a new James Madison record becoming JMU's all-time leader in career hits with 256. She was also one of two CAA players to not commit an error this season and second in total putouts.
Heather Stearns out in the Big 12 conference wraps up the postseason honors with a first team selection. Stearns finished the season with a 19-6 record and a 1.91 ERA, leading the Big 12 in strikeouts/game and saves. Heather was also recognized for her academic achievement and was named CoSIDA Academic All-District.
