New Jersey Pride News Release
CLIFTON - The New Jersey Pride, the Garden State's only professional lacrosse team, announced today its 23-man protected list, making official those players who are off limits to other teams in the 2008 MLL Supplemental Draft.
"We feel very confident bringing back the core group of guys who were very successful for us in 2007,'' said Pride General Manager Trey Reeder. "Our defense was the rock of our team and having all those guys back is going to provide our backbone for the future as well.''
The biggest names for the Pride will all be back next season headed up by midfielders Kyle Harrison, Jesse Hubbard, Greg Peyser and Adam Doneger. The defensive starters, Ryan McClay, Ryan Mollett and Brett Hughes were all retained as were goalies Rob Scherr and Matt Baran. The attack of Joe Yevoli, Chris Unterstein, Conor Ford, Scott Urick and Merrick Thomson are all returning.
"When you look at that lineup, the most important thing for us is keeping them all healthy,'' Reeder said. "We feel it's very strong, top to bottom."
A name that will return for the 2008 season is A.J. Haugen, as the Pride retained his rights despite his decision not to play in the MLL before last season. Also protected were midfielders Dan Chemotti, Kevin Boland, Matt Rewkowski, Chris Colliniates and Rob Parengkuan. Other long-poles who were retained were Corey Harned, Mike Peyser and Greg Raymond.
