PRIDE FINISH FIRST-HALF IN THIRD PLACE
The Pride lost to the Newark Bears by a score of 7-5 on Monday night to close out the first half of the season at 29-34. The Nashuans landed in third place in the Atlantic League North, seven games back of first half champion Bridgeport, which clinched their fourth playoff appearance in five seasons. Newark edged Somerset in the South to clinch their second consecutive postseason berth and snap the Patriots string of half-season crowns at five straight.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
The ATLANTIC CITY SURF signed former Pride and long-time Major League slugger PETE INCAVIGLIA on July 7th. The move reunites Incaviglia and Surf Manager MITCH WILLIAMS, both members of "Macho Row", the hirsute cast of characters on the 1993 Philadelphia Phillies World Series club that included "Inky" and "Wild Thing" along with John Kruk, Darren Daulton and Lenny Dykstra.
The NEWARK BEARS dealt long-time catcher PITO RAMIREZ, who has played all or parts of all five Atlantic League seasons with Newark, to Atlantic City for catcher JAY LAFLAIR and IF JACK JOFFRION. Ramirez was recently selected to the 2002 South Division All-Star squad, although his numbers this season (.227 in 34 games) are somewhat below his usual standards.
LONG ISLAND DUCKS DH Patrick Lennon was named Atlantic League Player-of-the-Month, hitting .333 with 9 homers and 31 RBIs in 28 games. LINCOLN MIKKELSEN of the CAMDEN RIVERSHARKS took pitching honors posting a perfect 5-0 record in five starts with a 1.47 ERA.

PRIDE SIGHTINGS
Former Pride catcher MIKE LANDRY of Wayland, MA, who appeared sparingly in 8 games for the Pride in 2001, has latched on with the new BROCKTON ROX of the Northern League, where he is seeing time as back-up catcher.
Another 2001 Pride backstop, catcher DAMIAN SAPP, was promoted from single-A Stockton to double-A Chattanooga in the Cincinnati Reds system in late June. Now splitting time between catcher and first base, Damian is hitting .255 with a homer and 5 RBIs in 16 games at Chattanooga. At Stockton, Damian belted 13 homers in 45 games before his promotion.
DONATO CALANDRIELLO, who teamed with Sapp on both the Pride and the Atlantic League All-Star squad last summer, is back in the league. Donato signed as a free agent with the Newark Bears in late June and started against the Pride on July 7th and picked up the win. He stands at 2-1 with a 4.66 ERA in 5 games.
Former Pride first baseman STEVE LARKIN has spent the entire season with the ALLENTOWN AMBASSADORS of the Northern League. Through games of 7/8/02 he is hitting .242 with 2 homers and 19 RBIs. His Manager for most of the season was former ABERDEEN ARSENAL skipper DARRELL EVANS, although Evans was fired on July 1st.
