Preview: FC Tulsa Brings Live Pro Sports Back to Tulsa on Wednesday Night at Oneok Field
August 11, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - Finally. After waiting more than five months to play in front of its home fans, FC Tulsa will make its new-era debut at ONEOK Field on Wednesday night against San Antonio FC. For the first time since March, pro sports will return to Tulsa.
With the historical element comes a juicy matchup that will pit two of the league's four remaining unbeaten teams, the top two teams in Group 2. San Antonio, in first place in the Group D, can open up a wide margin at the top of the Group with a victory. An FC Tulsa win on the other hand, makes it a two-horse race in Group D.
ABOUT SAN ANTONIO FC
One of the league's best teams so far in 2020, San Antonio FC boasts one of the most prospect-laden rosters in the league. Midfielder Cristian Parano, just 20 years old, is the engine in the midfield for SAFC and is considered by many to be the most elite young prospect in the USL Championship. The Argentinian has three goals and two assists already in 2020 after notching one of each against OKC Energy FC last Saturday night. Another starlet that features for San Antonio is 18-year-old American Jose Gallegos. Regarded as one of the U.S.'s best prospects under 20, he and Parano form a dynamic duo in the midfield.
SERIES HISTORY
While San Antonio has the advantage in the series history, beating Tulsa six times to just three wins for Tulsa, FC Tulsa has owned the recent advantage against San Antonio FC, going 2W-0L-2D in the last four matchups between the sides. The most recent match at ONEOK Field between the clubs resulted in a 4-3 Tulsa victory.
PLAYOFF POSITIONING
FC Tulsa and San Antonio FC remain unbeaten more than a month into the 2020 season. The top two teams in each Group will advance to the playoffs, so Wednesday night's match could go a long way in deciding who has the inside track to win Group D.
GROUP D STANDINGS
San Antonio 4-0-1 13 pts
FC Tulsa 2-0-2 8 pts
Austin Bold FC 2-2-0 6 pts
OKC Energy FC 1-3-2 5 pts
Rio Grande Valley FC 0-5-2 2 pts
HOW TO WATCH
The match will be broadcast locally on My41 Tulsa and nationally streamed on ESPN+. FC Tulsa is selling tickets to match and attendance will be limited capacity based on social distancing guidelines. Tickets are available at FCTulsa.com.
