FC Kansas City News Release

KANSAS CITY - After four weeks away from the game and six away from Swope Soccer Village, FC Kansas City returns to the pitch this Sunday night to host the Boston Breakers at 5 p.m.

Three of the Blues' four Olympians will be back in the lineup with Desiree Scott hanging back to celebrate Canada's bronze medal from Rio. Becky Sauerbrunn and Heather O'Reilly represented the U.S. Women's National Team and Katie Bowen played for New Zealand.

The Blues need a strong showing in the final quarter of the regular season if they are going to make a historic fourth appearance in the postseason. The Blues have two championships in the first three National Women's Soccer League seasons. The Breakers are already eliminated.

Washington is currently on the top of the board with a chance to clinch a spot in the playoffs this weekend. The Spirit have 32 points compared to FC Kansas City's 16.

The Blues and the Breakers have met once this season and Boston won 1-0 with a 19th minute goal from Whitney Engen on May 22 at Jordan Field. FC Kansas City responded with a four-game unbeaten streak and two victories to jump over Boston in the standings.

The Blues won two of their next five to go into the Olympic break with a 4-7-4 record. Shea Groom has a team-best six goals and Yael Averbuch ranks second with two. Frances Silva, Erika Tymrak and Sauerbrunn each have one.

FC Kansas City will host Sky Blue FC and the Chicago Red Stars in its final two home games on Sept. 4 and 11. The Blues end the regular season at Orlando.
