San Jose CyberRays News Release

SAN JOSE (July 14, 2003) – Pretinha, the CyberRays' leading scorer this season, will miss the remainder of the WUSA season and the Women's World Cup this fall because of a knee injury she suffered Sunday.

Following an examination in the Bay Area today upon her return from Sunday's USA-Brazil match in New Orleans, it was determined that the CyberRays' Brazilian forward suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. Pretinha went down in the 25th minute of the match, which the United States won 1-0.

Pretinha, 28, was the CyberRays' leader in goals (5), assists (5) and points (15) this season. In addition, she has played for Brazil in all three previous World Cups (1991, '95 and '99) and both Olympics (1996 and 2000).

The CyberRays, who had the weekend off because of the international match, return to action at 3 p.m. Sunday against the Philadelphia Charge in Spartan Stadium.
