Preds Davidson retires

ORLANDO, Fla. (July 19, 2006) -- Veteran wide receiver/defensive back Charlie Davidson, who started his career with the Orlando Predators in 1996, will also finish his career with the Predators - announcing his retirement.

Davidson, a former Mississippi State standout, began his AFL career with the Orlando Predators in 1996. He played a total of 12 seasons with seven different Arena Football League teams, catching 451 passes for 5,384 yards and 103 touchdowns. As a defensive back, he recorded 355.5 career tackles with 21 interceptions.

After being released in the 2006 pre-season by Kansas City, Davidson signed with the Predators in week seven, splitting time between the inactive list, injured reserve list and the active roster. He appeared in four regular season games, catching six passes for 58 yards. He played extensively in the post-season, recording 15 tackles and a pass defense to go with a pair of catches for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Davidson's best seasons came late in his career. With the Colorado Crush in 2003, he caught 78 passes for 1,031 yards and 21 touchdowns, while adding 53 tackles, 10 pass defenses and an interception. Playing for the Austin Wranglers in 2004, he had a career-high 92 receptions for 859 yards and 16 touchdowns to go with 37.5 tackles, nine pass defenses and three interceptions.
