Orlando Predators News Release
Orlando, Fla. (April 12, 2007) - The personnel changes continued for the Orlando Predators on Thursday, when the team announced that it had signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneer wide receiver JR Russell and had placed offensive lineman Delanio Taylor on injured reserve.
A 7th round pick (253rd overall) in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Bucs, Russell was on the roster for the first 11 games of the 2005 season but was never activated. Released on November 29, Russell would sign the next day and spend the remainder of the season on the Bucs practice squad. Russell went to training camp with Tampa Bay in the summer of 2006.
Russell played four seasons with the University of Louisville. A redshirt freshmen in 2000, Russell began his college career as a reserve split end in 2001, then moved to a starting position in four games his sophomore year with the Cards. By his senior year Russell held the school single-season record for receiving yards with 1,213 total yards and became only the fourth player in school history to break 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. In 50 games, Russell ended his college career with a total of 186 receptions for 2,619 yards and 19 touchdowns.
In other moves, the Predators placed lineman Delanio Taylor (knee) on its injured reserve list. Taylor opened the 2007 on injured reserve. He was activated on March 27 and played in one game, starting at center against New Orleans. Taylor will not be eligible to return until the New Orleans game on May 11.
