Northern Michigan Predators News Release

The Northern Michigan Predators extended their winning streak to four games with a 4-3 victory over the Soo City Mavericks last night at the Polar Bear Ice and Fitness Center. Northen Michigan is now 5-3 on the year.

"It was a great win for the team," said defenseman Corey Anderson. "After a slow start, the guys really pulled it together and gave a solid effort."

The Mavericks wasted no time as they scored a quick goal just two minutes into the game. The Predators evened the game on a nice power-play goal from forward B.J. Benjamin. Soo came firing back to regain the lead at 2-1. Las Vegas native, Paul Kasztelan, notted the game at 2-2 in the last 90 seconds of the first stanza.

C.J. Carlson gave his team the lead for good early in the second period when he was able to slip one past the reach of goaltender Mort Anderson. Dan Howard lit the lamp later in the period with the eventual game winner to give Northern Michigan the 4-2 lead. Howard now leads the team with 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points.

The Mavericks demonstrated true grit as they drew within one halfway through the third period. They were unable to captalize on their chances in the last minute, and the Predators were able to seal the deal. Andy Barber earned his fourth victory of the season for the Predators.
