Long Island Rough Riders News Release


The Rough Riders are gearing up for an exciting day this Saturday, July 16th at 7:30 PM at Mitchel Athletic Complex as they prepare to take on the eighth place Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

The Rough Riders have added yet another new face to their revamped lineup. Matthew DeMartini, a standout goal scorer at Tusculum College, will join newly added Ricardo Blanchard, Laurence Piturro and Aboubacar "Bouba" Camara as they make their 2005 Rough Riders debut. The defensive midfielder scored 30 goals and 15 assists during his two years at Tusculum, and his nose for the goal will be a welcome addition to a lineup that boasts league-leading assist man Wilmer Cabrera and USL Player of the Week Moussa Sy.

At 4:30PM at Mitchel Athletic Complex, the New York Rovers take on Islip for the Long Island Soccer Football League Championship in a doubleheader with the Rough Riders.

The festivities conclude with the Long Island Rough Riders facing the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at 7:30PM. Modell's Sporting Goods is sponsoring the game, with the first 2,000 fans receiving free Modell's stamped backpacks.

Earlier in the afternoon, Dr. Gary Olson, a member of the Long Island Rough Riders Soccer Club medical staff, will be sponsoring a blood drive from 12-4PM in Commack. There will be games for the children, including a temporary tattoo booth as well as a soccer kick and a moon bounce. Rough Riders Captain Wilmer Cabrera will be on hand to sign autographs, and Panera Bread will be giving out food to anyone who donates blood.
