(Saint John, NB): The Oshawa Power beat the Saint John Mill Rats on a buzzer beating three point shot from Akeem Wright, making the final score 91-88 at Harbour Station in front of 1,708 fans.
Saint John once again fell behind early, trailing 17-6 at the outset but by the end of first half, clawed back to a 47-43 halftime lead.
The Power led 88-84 with 1:10 remaining, but Greg Plummer scored on a slicing layup plus earned a trip to the free throw line. His free throw missed, but Antoine Tisby collected the rebound and dropped in the put-back to tie the game. On the final possession, the Mill Rats got the stop they needed but Anthony Anderson's driving shot missed with under 5 seconds left, setting up the final stage for Wright's dagger to win the game.
Leading scorers for the Mill Rats were 6'4 Greg Plummer with 26 points, Anthony Anderson with 20 and Antoine Tisby with 14. The Oshawa Power were led by Kevin Francis who nabbed 28, Omari Johnson with 22 and Akeem Wright with 18.
The Oshawa Power move to 4-6, while the Mill Rats fall to 5-4.
Saint John is back at Harbour Station again tomorrow night at 7pm as they host the Halifax Rainmen. The Mill Rats will also be retiring former Mill Rat David Cooper's #7 jersey in honour of his longstanding commitment on and off the court.
