Power Re-Instate Roster for Home Opener

March 14, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Pittsburgh Power News Release

(Pittsburgh -- March 12, 2012) The Power got off to a fast start by winning their first game of the 2012 season last Friday night. And they did it with fewer than half their starting players in the lineup, having released the team to ensure the playing of the Arena Football League's 25th anniversary showcase season opening game, then re-signing about half the players in time to take the field in Orlando.

And today, the Power announced that they've brought back nearly the entire starting roster, including starting wide receivers Mike Washington and Lonnell DeWalt and offensive lineman Beau Elliott.

"We are very happy to have our players rejoining us," said owner Matt Shaner. "I believe this is a true reflection of the manner in which we are viewed by the players and an endorsement of the great length the Power organization undertakes daily to provide the highest quality environment for our players - from the best game, practice, medical and training facilities in the AFL, to fantastic housing and other lifestyle amenities."

"We're thrilled to have our roster back intact," said head coach Chris Siegfried. "Now we can focus our attention and our energy on playing football-and preparing for the home opener."

The Power host the Philadelphia Soul Friday, March 23 at 8pm at CONSOL Energy Center. It's the same matchup as the Power's first-ever game, a shootout won by the Soul in overtime, 58-52. In this season's home opener, fans will be treated to what is promised to be the largest indoor fireworks show in Pittsburgh history.
