BILOXI, MS -- The Pensacola Ice Flyers defeated the Mississippi Surge by the score of 3-2 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Thursday evening.

After a scoreless first period, Lorne Misita gave the Ice Flyers a 1-0 lead on the power play, knocking in a loose rebound at 7:20 of the second frame. With forward Mike Richard in the penalty box for interference, Mississippi tied it up when Chris Greene broke down the ice one-on-one and fired a backhander that trickled past Pensacola goalie Ryan Scott for a shorthand goal at 12:59. Pensacola regained the lead on the same power play, when Brian Deeth found Dan Buccella open in the low left circle and Buccella one-timed Deeth's pass past Surge goaltender Bill Zaniboni at 13:57. Steve Weidlich evened the score at two-apiece when he snuck in untouched from the blueline and tapped home a centering feed from Matthew Larke at 19:10.

Mark Hinz gave Pensacola the win when he tapped home the rebound of Rob Campbell's shot at 13:27 of the third period for Pensacola's third power-play goal of the game.

Bill Zaniboni made 24 saves in the loss, and the Surge were 0-for-3 on the power play.

The Surge returns home on Sunday, March 14 when they face off against the Columbus Cottonmouths at 5:00 p.m. Tickets for this and all Surge home games start as low as $8 and can be purchased at the box office or by calling (228) 287-PUCK!
