Mississauga Power News Release

(Mississauga, ON - ) "There's a basketball hoop in every driveway in Mississauga," stated Mississauga's Mayor Hazel McCallion, she continued "the young people of this city are all very much into the game of basketball". The Mississauga Power hosted a ceremony for the Mayor tonight, who is in her final term as Mayor for the city. The Power took on the Brampton A's at the Hershey Centre for Fan Appreciation Night. Proceeds from the night's game were donated to the United Way of Peel. Despite the positive tone of the night, the Power lost 106-102 to the A's. Mark Gomillia led all scorers with 23 points while Morgan Lewis continued his hot streak by contributing 21 points and 15 rebounds. Jameson Tipping led the visitors with 18 points.

The first quarter foreshadowed what would be a hard fought war on the hardwood with non-stop back and forth action. The Power showed they weren't finding the rim as well as last game with an early 4-11 shooting performance in the first quarter. The second quarter told a different story with the Power outscoring the A's by seven and coming back to tie up the game for halftime.

The third quarter tipped off with a continued battle with both the Power and A's playing a close game. The Power were slow on the offensive and defensive glass but managed to limit the A's scoring opportunities. Towards the end of the third the Power showed an offensive burst with a strong 11-0 run, taking a three point lead into the final quarter.

The Power and the A's held each other to a close game but the Power seemed to run out of juice at the end of the game. The Power struggled to contain Brampton which led to the A's victory.

The Power will take on the Ottawa SkyHawks in Ottawa on March 2nd at 2 p.m. in the team's play-in game. The winner of the game will move on to take on the Windsor Express in the first round of the playoffs.
