Mississauga Power News Release
(Mississauga, ON - ) The Mississauga Power held a historic home opener on Tuesday night, playing the first ever professional basketball game in Mississauga at the Hershey Centre. Mayor Hazel McCallion was in attendance to support and endorse the team, "This is a basketball city. When you walk around outside, you see basketball nets on all the driveways and there is no better place for a professional basketball team."
Proceeds from the game were donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to make this special night the Power's annual "Cure on the Court" event. The Mississauga Power wore pink in support of breast cancer awareness. A silent auction was also held to further help fundraise for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. "We are so pleased to be having this event tonight," stated team President Henry Chow. Chow continues, "For everyone who donates to tonight's game, I will match their donation!"
Brampton started off hot from the field as the team already had a 24-16 lead after the first quarter. I would also like to thank Mayor McCallion and the city for the tremendous support we received tonight."
