Possible Attendance and Eyeball Records

April 14, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release

Friday's Premier Basketball League playoff game between the Rochester RazorSharks and Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry could be setting records on a couple of off-the-court fronts.

The Sharks announced that for the first time in franchise history, all 232 court side seats at the Rochester Community War Memorial have been sold out in advance. That leaves open the possibility of a run at the team's attendance record.

The single game mark occured in a PBL playoff game against the Arkansas Impact in 2008 with a crowd of 9,717. The 2011 RazorSharks drew the second, third and fourth largest crowds. The biggest of those was 9,273, a crowd that turned out on a Monday night to watch the Sharks take on Lawton-Fort Sill, Friday night's opponent.

The game is the first of a best of three championship playoff series and the last game of Rochester's home season. The Sharks averaged a record 5,396 for the regular season. They drew 4,738 for their playoff game against Quebec last week.

Meanwhile the PBL has negotiated a television deal to show its 2012 games in the People's Republic of China. Friday night's playoff will be shown on taped delay in that country to a potential audience of 100 million via Prime Time in China, a network that is roughly similar to ESPN.here in the United States.

That according to league officials, could make it the most viewed event in United States minor league sports history. A Chinese broadcast crew will be on hand for the game. An audio recording of the game will be made and then matched to the in-house feed for playback at a later date.
