NEW YORK (Monday, June 9, 2014) - Portland Timbers forward Fanendo Adi was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 14 of the 2014 MLS season.
Adi scored two first-half goals in the Timbers' 3-1 road win over Real Salt Lake Saturday night.
Adi notched his first goal in the 36th minute to tie the score at one. Portland midfielder and MLS assists leader Diego Valeri sent a corner kick into the six-yard box that Adi smoothly headed into the back of the net, despite being well covered by Real Salt Lake defender Chris Schuler.
Nine minutes later, Adi scored the game-winning goal, giving Portland a 2-1 lead. Timbers midfielder GastÃ"n Fernández found Darlington Nagbe in the right side of the box and he ripped the ball towards the net. Salt Lake goalkeeper Jeff Attinella knocked away the powerful strike, but the rebound went straight to Adi, who easily scored his second goal of the match .
The Timbers have one match to go before the World Cup break, when they host FC Dallas Wednesday, June 11 at 10 p.m. ET in a nationally televised match on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes,.
