Portland Thorns FC Midfielder Lindsey Horan Voted NWSL Player of the Month

CHICAGO - Portland Thorns FC midfielder Lindsey Horan was voted the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Month by the NWSL Media Association for the month of July of the 2018 NWSL season.
Horan, 24, scored three goals and added one assist in just two appearances in July, leading Portland to a perfect 3-0-0 record in the month. She is now tied for first in the Golden Boot race, finding the back of the net nine times this season. The Thorns FC are currently riding a three-game winning streak and sit third in the league standings with 29 points (8-5-5 overall record).
The Golden, Colo. native began the month heading home a Tobin Heath freekick in the 32nd minute in Portland's 4-0 home win against Utah Royals FC on July 6. In the 62nd minute, she added an assist setting up a brilliant goal by Tyler Lussi who scored after entering the match just 31 second earlier. (Watch highlights)
The U.S. international scored her first brace of the season and the second of her Thorns FC career, leading the club to a 3-1 win over Houston Dash on July 15. Horan opened the match with a header in the 16th minute off a flawless cross from Emily Sonnett. She then scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 31st minute tapping in a flicked-on ball by Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic off a free kick from Heath. (Watch Highlights)
Horan played 180 minutes and finished the month with five of seven shots on goal, six interceptions, seven clearances, 25 duels won and five chances created on 184 touches.
It is the first time Horan has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Month, joining Tobin Heath, Allie Long and Christine Sinclair (3). It also marks the sixth time a Thorns player has received the award, tied for the most in league history.
The Portland Thorns FC will return to action against North Carolina Courage on Sunday, August 5 at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park at 6 p.m. ET.
