Portland Lumberjax News Release
PORTLAND, October 27, 2008 - The Portland LumberJax have re-signed defenseman Richard Morgan to a one-year contract, Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan announced today. Morgan is the longest tenured player for the Jax and will enter his fourth season with the team in 2009.
The five-year veteran scored 10 goals, added five assists and collected a career-high 78 loose balls last season for the West Division Champion LumberJax. During Portland's run to the National Lacrosse League Championship, Morgan scored two goals and added two assists in three playoff games.
"It seems every year I say this, but I think Rich is one of the most underrated, under appreciated players in the NLL - but not by me," said Keenan. "He's an excellent defender and unstoppable in transition because of his size, speed and power."
The 6'8" physical force is tied for the franchise lead in games played (47) and is second all-time with 222 loose balls collected. The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia native is also sixth in team history in goals scored (30), 10th in assists (26) and ninth in points scored (56).
"Rich was a huge part of our successful playoff run last year and will continue to be a major contributor to our team success this season," said Keenan.
