Porter's consistency earns him player of the week honors

Boise, ID (February 2, 2004) — The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Dakota Wizards forward Chris Porter was named the League Player of the Week for the week of January 25 – 31.

The 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward averaged 22.3 points and 6.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game during the week, while shooting 60.0 percent (30 of 50) from the floor and 83.8 percent (26 of 31) from the free-throw line. He led the Wizards to a perfect 4-0 record during the week, despite losing teammates Kaniel Dickens to a 48-hour tryout with the Los Angeles Lakers, and guard Maurice Carter who signed a 10-day contract with the Lakers on Friday, January 30.

In a 123-105 victory over the Idaho Stampede on January 27, Porter posted 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals, as he led his team in both rebounds and assists for the game. Three nights later he led the Wizards with 31 points, while also adding nine rebounds and four assists, as Dakota beat the Rockford Lightning 129-120.

Other players receiving consideration were Gary's Jemeil Rich (16.7 ppg, 10.7 apg), and Idaho's DeSean Hadley (23.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg).
