Boise, ID (February 2, 2004) — The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Dakota Wizards Head Coach Dave Joerger was named the League Coach of the Month for the month of January. The award is the second of the 2003-04 season for Joerger, who was also named Coach of the Month for November after posting a 6-1 record and 5.1 quarter-point average.

For the month of January, the Moorhead State (Minn. 97) alum led the Wizards to an 11-2 record and a 5.0 quarter-point average (65.5 total), including a six-game winning streak at the beginning of the month, and a current five-game winning streak to close out January. Dakota was 8-1 at home and 3-1 on the road as they held on to first place in the league with an overall quarter-point average of 4.6 for the season.

The Wizards suffered their only losses of the month at home against Rockford on the 18th, and on the road against Gary on the 23rd. During the team's current winning streak Dakota is averaging 5.9 quarter-points per game.

Since the 2003-04 season began, Joerger has sent four players to the NBA (Sean Lampley, Oliver Miller, Kaniel Dickens, Maurice Carter). He also coached the National Team to a 105-103 victory in the 20th CBA All-Star Classic, on January 20 in Yakima, WA. It was his second straight All-Star game victory, adding him to a group of six CBA coaches who have two or more All-Star victories (Bill Klucas ‘82,'84 – Phil Jackson ‘83,'85 – Bill Musselman ‘87,'88 – Eric Musselman ‘90,'97 – Dan Panaggio ‘93,'00 – Flip Saunders ‘94,'95).
