Port Huron's Tab Lardner Named Outstanding Defensive Forward

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Thursday that Port Huron left wing Tab Lardner has been named the 2008-09 IHL Outstanding Defensive Forward as selected by league head coaches, general managers and members of the media.

The 29-year-old Edmonton, Alberta native has recorded 36 goals and 28 assists for a total of 64 points in 70 games played so far this season, registering a plus-15 rating. His 64 points ranks him fourth on the Icehawks roster in scoring. Lardner has scored 10 goals and seven assists on the Icehawks power play. He has also notched in three shorthanded goals, which ties him for the second most in the league. The 5-11, 180 pound left wing currently leads the IHL in game winning goals with nine.

Lardner has recorded two hat tricks this season. The first came on February 4th in a 5-2 win over Kalamazoo and the second came March 15th in a 7-3 win over Muskegon. He is the only member of the Icehawks to record a hat trick in the 2008-09 season.

In two seasons with the Icehawks, Lardner remains the franchise's top scorer, posting a total of 145 points in 141 games played. He has scored a franchise-high 75 goals and 14 game winning goals.

Lardner will be presented with the award on Saturday, April 4th.
