Port Huron Icehawks News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks could not recover from an early deficit on Tuesday and fell 5-3 to the Kalamazoo Wings at McMorran Arena. The loss snapped a five game winning streak for Port Huron and gave Kalamazoo their third consecutive win.

The K-Wings landed two goals in the first period despite making just six shots on goal. They got things started early with a Glenn Detulleo goal just 1:11 after the first puck drop and scored again before the midway mark in the first to improve their lead to 2-0.

Before the first period came to a close, Nick Lindberg beat goalie Jason Tapp to put Port Huron on the board. Kalamazoo extended their lead in the second period, however, with two more consecutive goals.

As the second period wound down, Port Huron kicked off a rally attempt when Jeremy Tucker scored on the power play. He was assisted by Jeff Zehr and Ian Turner.

In the third period, the Icehawks fired 17 shots on goal in an attempt to regain control of the game. Lindberg scored his second goal of the night at 13:30 in the period to bring the Icehawks within a single goal, but they could not find the equalizer as the clock wound down. Lucas Drake then landed an empty net goal with just 12 seconds left to play to boost the K-Wings margin of victory.

The Icehawks outshot the K-Wings 37-22 in the loss. Tapp earned the win with 34 saves on 37 shots, while Icehawks goalie Larry Sterling made 17 saves on 21 shots.

The Icehawks play three games in three days this weekend as they travel to Fort Wayne on Friday, Flint on Saturday and Kalamazoo on Sunday. The Icehawks will wrap up the four game road trip with a Thanksgiving Day clash at Muskegon next Thursday before returning home for two games next weekend.
