Trenton Thunder News Release
The State College Spikes dominated the Trenton Thunder on July 31, 2026, securing an 11-3 victory at Trenton. Both starting pitchers, Haden Luke for the Spikes and Connor Godwin for the Thunder, held opposing lineups scoreless through the first three innings despite traffic on the bases.
The Spikes broke the tie in the top of the fourth inning. After Camden Ross was hit by a pitch, Hudson Shupe doubled to right field to score Ross. Justin Journette added an RBI single shortly after, bringing Shupe home to give State College a 2-0 lead.
State College blew the game open in the top of the fifth with a five-run outburst. CJ Richmond crushed a two-run home run to right field to extend the lead. Following consecutive hit batters and a walk, a wild pitch from reliever Hayden Lewis allowed another run to score before Journette knocked a two- run double to shallow left field, putting the Spikes ahead 7-0.
The Spikes added two more runs in the seventh on another RBI single from Journette, and tacked on two final insurance runs in the ninth courtesy of an RBI single by Ethan Swidler and a sacrifice fly from Nyan Hayes.
Trenton managed to break up the shutout in the bottom of the eighth when Daniel Murillo doubled and Cy Turner drove in two runs with a single. The Thunder added one last run in the bottom of the ninth on a Jake Koonin RBI single following a Dean O'Neill triple, but Patrick Morris closed out the 11-3 win for State College.
Haden Luke earned the win (2-0) for the Spikes, while Connor Godwin took the loss (0-1) for Trenton.
The game concluded in 3 hours and 13 minutes in front of an attendance of 3,815.
