Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.--- The Eastern Division and league-leading Muskegon Fury, in collaboration with the United Hockey League, have announced on this date that the Fury's CLAYTON POOL has been acclaimed the SOUTH-ERN SPORTS SUPPLY / UHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK for the week of December 11th through December 17th. It marks the second consecutive week and the third time thus far this season that the Fury's principal puck detour has been honored with this league-wide award.
The 28-year old, 3-year pro has been has been truly monumental and magnificent in the Fury's extraordinary begin-ning of rampant winning in their 15th anniversary season as Muskegon has inexorably surged to the vanguard of the UHL standings with a phenomenal record of 27(24-3-0) totaling 48-points, representing their best start ever through the initial 27-games of the regular season.
The past week, the native of Abbotsford, B.C. continued his remarkable mastery of league rivals by posting another perfect weekly record of 2(2-0-0) in his 2-starts, authoring his third shutout of the current campaign while permitting a paltry 2-GA for the entire week. In the process, he essayed a frugal 1.00 GAA and SPCT of .970 in repelling 64 of 66 shots.
The past Friday night in Bloomington, IL, Pool was perfect personified in turning aside all 35-shots served his way by the Prairie Thunder in his team's 4-0 dominating triumph of the home hosting team. It was his second consecutive shutout on the road with both zeroes coming on consecutive Friday nights. For his outstanding performance that night, Pool was saluted as the game's #3 Star. On the very next night in Chicago, he barricaded 29-attempts on his Fury fortress as Muskegon completed the sweep of its two game Illinois weekend road swing with a 3-2 victory verdict. With that latest victory, Pool helped lead the Fury to an all-time club record 9th consecutive victory on the road, a 5th successive win overall and an 8th triumph through the past 9-games.
For the season, Pool has been the absolute master of his divine province, leading the UHL in all of the league's major goalkeeping categories. Entering this week before Christmas, he continues to be rated as the UHL's top goaltender, having assembled a masterful mark of 19(17-2-0) with his 17-victories, 1.74 GAA and .942 SPCT all ranked as the best in the circuit. His total of 3-shutouts has vaulted him into a share of the shutout leadership in the UHL. Moreover, he is the lone UHL goaltender still undefeated on the road, carding a scintillating 11(11-0-0) record with an avarice 1.62 GAA. In his last 4-games, he is 4(4-0-0), grudgingly surrendering only 3-GA with a 0.75 GAA, 2-shutouts and .976 SPCT. In keeping with the same theme, in his last 14-games, Pool has allotted only 21-GA for a GAA of 1.50.
Having originally inked a pact with the Fury as a free agent in the summer of 2004, Pool earned his Friday shutout with some star-studded style and polished profile as he achieved the feat in his 100th Fury career game, ranking him third on the Fury all-time games played list for goaltenders. Through those 100 or so career games, Pool has attained the best winning percentage in the Fury's club history at .757 through a scintillating record of 90(64-18-8). He has become Muskegon's third all-time top winning goaltender behind predecessors Sylvain Daigle and Joe Dimaline.
This marks the third time and the second consecutive week thus far this season that Pool has captured the UHL's weekly honors. In addition, he has previously earned accolades for being the Southern Sports Supply / UHL Goaltender of the Month for November.
