Poe Commits to UConn

The Topeka RoadRunners are proud to announce third year veteran defenseman Jacob Poe has committed to play Division I hockey next season for the University of Connecticut Huskies.
Poe, a hard hitting 6'3" 200 lb. defenseman from Arlington, TX turned down an offer to play college hockey this season, instead choosing to return to Topeka for one more run at the Robertson Cup. Some viewed his decision as a bit of a gamble, including Poe himself. "I feel like the gamble has definitely paid off", he said. "I can't imagine not being with this team with this group of guys. " After visiting the campus last month, Poe was pretty much sold on the program. "I really liked the campus and had a good time with the some of the guys on the team. Everything about it feels like a perfect fit." While he has yet to decide on a major, he knows he has plenty of time for that, with a more immediate task at hand. "I think this year's team has a great chance to win the Robertson Cup because we always seem to find a way to win. Our roster is solid all the way through. There's not a weakness that we have to make up for."
Jacob was named an alternate captain this season, and he is grateful to the RoadRunners franchise for the part they've played in getting him to his goals. "The RoadRunner organization gave me every opportunity to further my career as a hockey player. If it wasn't for owner Don Stone and coaches Scott Langer and R.J. Enga I wouldn't be in the position I'm in going to UCONN." Poe's family has also provided him with all the support he would need. "Most of all I'd like to thank my parents for always doing whatever it takes to help me with my hockey but especially I'd like to thank my brother Jared. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have ever started playing, or continued playing because I looked up to him so much."
Poe follows a path to UCONN led by other former RoadRunners including B.J. Bayers, Jason Krispel, Corey Jendras, and Cole Schneider. He is the fifth player on this year's roster to commit to a Division I program, following Michael Hill (Alaska -Fairbanks), and three players headed to Merrimack College (Rasmus Tirronen, Brian Christie, and Justin Hussar).
