Plymouth Whalers News Release
Parents love to have their kids home for the holidays.
But somewhere between Christmas Day and the New Year, the video games have been played, the card games have gone so far and it's time to work off the holiday snacks. Maybe it's time for a local day-trip.
The Plymouth Whalers are offering a solution to mid-week boredom. On Wednesday at 2pm at Compuware Arena, the Whalers are hosting their annual Kid's Day game against the London Knights.
Not only is the game a chance for parents and their kids to get out of the house, it's also a chance to see the two top teams in the Ontario Hockey League.
London (25-7-0-1) is the top-rated team in the 59-team Canadian Hockey League and the top team in the OHL's Western Conference. Plymouth (22-9-2-1) is fifth in the current Canadian Hockey League rankings and is second in the Western Conference.
The Whalers and Knights have split a pair of games so far, with the road team winning in each game - London defeating Plymouth, 6-3, on Oct. 1 at Compuware Arena; Plymouth beat London, 4-1, on Nov. 18 at the John Labatt Centre in London.
And even with both teams missing several key players either at the World Junior Championships or the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, Plymouth and London always play competitive, fun hockey.
But that's not all. The Whalers have several activities planned specifically for children and current Kids Club members.
* The first 400 children will receive a free Day-Glo Bracelet and Necklace.
* The Whalers will be offering face painting before the game.
* Plymouth mascot, Shooter, will be available for photos with his friends.
* Kids Club members will be celebrating Plymouth mascot Shooter's birthday during the first intermission.
* The Whalers are offering - for kids - Max and Erma's Score-O, with prizes offered to kids who can score goals.
* Children will be able to participate in the Axis Music Air Guitar competition during the first intermission.
To order tickets, please call Compuware Arena at (734) 453-8400. In addition, the box office will be open Wednesday at 9am.
