Playoff schedule changes for Flight
March 3, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
St. Louis Flight News Release
(St. Louis, MO) -- The American Basketball Association playoff scenarios continue to change. League Commissioner Joe Newman announced the St. Louis Flight will now play the Mississippi Stingers on Sunday instead of the Utah Snowbears.
Mississippi finished the regular season with a record of 20-and-3 and has a very balanced scoring attack. Tim Henderson leads seven Stingers averaging better than ten points per game with his 14 points per game average.
Sunday's 2:00 o'clock game will be the first ever meeting between the two teams. St. Louis finished the season with a record of 10-and-19. Cedric Moodie was the leading scorer for the expansion Flight averaging better than 16 points per game. Former Missouri forward Tyrone Lee finished third in the Central Division in rebounding grabbing almost nine per game.
St. Louis General Manager Larry Striklin says the change in geography won't change his team's approach to the contest, "Our team is focused on bringing a championship to our St. Louis fans, and we're glad to be a part of the ABA's playoffs in our first season in the âGateway City'."
A Flight victory would push them into the quarter-finals against the winner of the game between Los Angeles and Kansas City.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
