ABA revises playoff format

Published on March 3, 2005 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. The ABA today announced that the Final Four concept for the upcoming playoffs has been revised - and that the Final Championship Game would be at the home of the highest remaining seed.

According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "When we announced the Final Four concept, we had many calls and emails asking what would happen if the home team was not in the playoffs and would that affect attendance at the Championship Game? We polled the owners and the consensus was that having the Championship Game at the highest seed's home court would not only reward the team for its good play throughout the season but would reward the fans who have followed the team also. Being a very flexible league and open to good ideas, we have made the change. The key is winning the first three games."

The ABA Playoffs start Friday night in Kansas City as a revitalized Los Angeles Stars team visits the Knights with upset on their minds. There will be several playoff games over the weekend also. Among the games to watch are Kentucky vs Harlem, Las Vegas vs Long Beach and NJ vs Maryland - all too close to call. For more information, visit the teams' websites or www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
