Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Blitz of the af2 will celebrate their upcoming playoff drive with a Playoff Kickoff Barbeque planned for Monday, August 9th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Individual playoff tickets will go on sale at 10:00 a.m. that day for the team's second round playoff game on Saturday, August 14th.

The lunchtime event will be held in front of Centennial Garden on the Plaza. Tailgaters will provide lunch, consisting of tri tip or chicken sandwiches, Frito Lay chips and a Pepsi product all for $5. In addition, Blitz players and coaches will be in attendance to meet with fans and sign autographs. Crusher, the Blitz mascot, will also make an appearance and the Blitz Football Toss game and Condors Slapshot game will be set up as well to entertain kids of all ages.

The Blitz hosts a second round playoff matchup on the 14th, and are currently awaiting their opponent to emerge from this weekend's playoff action. Everyone in attendance will receive a Blitz 2004 Highlight Poster, courtesy of KGET-TV 17. Also, while the Blitz are already in the playoffs, the L.A. Dodgers are in the playoff pennant race, and to jump on the bandwagon, anyone wearing Dodgers gear to the game can purchase 2-for-1 tickets. In addition, to commemorate the start that weekend of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, anyone bold enough to wear Greek attire, specifically a toga, to the Blitz playoff game can also purchase 2-for-1 tickets.

Condors fans will be interested in coming out to the event as well, as several seats will be tagged for season ticket and mini plan packages that are available. Condors Head Coach Marty Raymond will also be in attendance.

"We're putting our playoff game faces on," said Blitz President Matthew Riley. "We want to have a fun event as we get ready for the playoffs here and give the fans a chance to rally around the team. Tailgaters is going to make some great lunches, tickets are going on sale, and we're all getting pumped up for the playoffs."

All Blitz games, home and away, can be heard on KGEO AM 1230 with the "Voice of the Blitz" Kevin Bartl. "Countdown to Kickoff" begins 15 minutes prior to the start of the game. Join Bartl and Head Coach Rick Van Horne at the Holiday Inn Select on Truxtun Avenue every Thursday night from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. for the Indoor War Report. The IWR is a live, weekly talk show about the Blitz that features guests as well as food and drink specials and is broadcast live on KGEO AM 1230.

Prior to playoff tickets going on sale, fans can purchase seats with a group outing, on sale now by contacting the Blitz office at 716-BLITZ (2548) or by stopping by the Bakersfield Sports Entertainment office located at Centennial Garden. Extra Points: The Blitz await the outcome of two first round playoff games this weekend to determine who they will play on August 14th: # 3 Quad City Steamwheelers hosts #6 Louisville Fire and #4 Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz host #5 Peoria Pirates. The top National Conference seed Tulsa Talons (who finished the season with 10 straight wins) will host the lowest seed to emerge.
