Pitchers Duel Results in 3-1 Quincy Victory Over Bombers
July 29, 2011 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release
On their first matchup since July 17, the Dubois County Bombers and the Quincy Gems met Friday evening at League Stadium. The Bombers outhit the Gems five to four, but some early runs by Quincy led to a 3-1 victory for the Gems.
David Mueller started for the Bombers and threw five innings. In his outing, Mueller allowed just three hits, but he was a bit wild, hitting three batters with pitches. Quincy scored a single run in the first, third, and fourth innings off of David, two of which reached base on walks or hit-by-pitches. Mueller's loss takes his record to 4-3 with a 3.19 ERA.
Mueller was relieved by lefty Jeremy Juliot to start the sixth inning, and Juliot pitched great. Juliot would stay in for the remainder of the game, four innings, and only allow a single base-runner while striking out three.
Leadoff man Anthony Aceto led the way offensively with a 2-for-4 night. The Bombers scored their lone run of the game in the fifth inning after Joe Perez, who led off the inning with a single, scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Kolin Conner. Singles were also added by Conner and designated hitter Ryan Chesler.
Late in the game, Dubois County had few chances to score, and when they did have men on base, Quincy catcher Jake Romanski made sure they weren't going anywhere. Being aggressive on the bases usually pays off for the Bombers, but tonight it backfired as Romanski caught all three Bombers that attempted to steal.
The 3-1 loss drops the Bombers to 9-12, while Quincy now leads the Western Division with a record of 14-8.
Saturday night the Bombers will take on the Danville Dans at League Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:15 pm EDT. The season wouldn't be possible without host families for our players and coaches, so we are taking the night to recognize those individuals with Host Family Appreciation Night.
On Sunday, the Bombers continue their homestand against the Richmond RiverRats. Game time for Sunday will be 6:15 pm EDT, and we will be welcoming groups from Jasper Engines & Transmissions and Dubois County Junior Achievement!
