Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Kalamazoo, MI - In a flip from last night, the Traverse City Pit Spitters went down to the Kalamazoo Growlers 4-0 and stayed down as their comeback came up just short, losing 7-6 on Thursday night.

The Growlers scored two in the first, one in the third and one more in the fifth. They had eight hits through the first five innings. Traverse City had just one.

The first Pit Spitters hit came in the top of the fifth. They would get two on base but wouldn't score. They finally broke through in a big way in the sixth.

Three runs came in to score in the sixth, despite only registering one hit. Three walks and an error aided the big inning as the deficit was cut to just one run. But the Growlers would answer with a three-run bottom half to go back up by four.

In the eighth, the bases got loaded on two walks and a hit by pitch. Alec Atkinson singled home one run as everyone moved up 90 feet. After a wild pitch to score one more, Ariel Garcia came on as a pinch hitter and singled home the third run of the inning. However, Atkinson had to hold at third to make sure the ball fell with less than two outs, and that choice would prove big. With runners on the corners and one out, the Pit Spitters failed to score the tying run. They would go down 1-2-3 in the ninth to fall 7-6.

Up Next

The Pit Spitters continue the road trip in Kokomo as they take on the Jackrabbits. Game one of the series will start at 6:35 ET.
