Loggers Walk It Off; Edge Out Bucks, 3-2

July 7, 2022 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
La Crosse Loggers News Release

The La Crosse Loggers stood victorious over the Waterloo Bucks last night, thanks to a Josh Stevenson (LSU) walk-off double to right field in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Making his first start for the Loggers was Micky Thompson (San Jose State), who produced a gem. His location was spot on, keeping Bucks' hitters off-balance throughout, allowing just one hit. The southpaw ate up 5.0 innings of shutout ball while waving 5 batters.

Waterloo's first run came in the 7th inning, coming from an RBI single by Ryan Grabosch (New Mexico State), scoring Jake Wilhoit (Davidson College) who reached on a triple.

The Loggers' offensive responded the following inning, producing a run from a sacrifice fly by Aidan Sweatt (North Florida), plating Jack Haley (Cal State Fullerton) who doubled down the left field line.

Grady Gorden (Troy) appeared in relief for the Lumberman, earning his 4th win of the season. The Wisconsin native tallied 3.0 innings, recording no earned runs with 5 strikeouts.

After a failed effort to emerge victorious in the 9th and a shutout inning from Gorgen, the Loggers had another opportunity to win in dramatic fashion in the 10th frame.

With a runner already on second base, Luke Leto (LSU) started the rally with a walk, followed by a hit-by-pitch to Sweatt. Stevenson (LSU) capitalized with the bases juiced, lining a double down the line to win it.

The Loggers will battle the Bucks again tomorrow at home. It will be "Orthodontics Night" presented by Great River Orthodontics. The first pitch is set for 6:35pm CT at Copeland Park.
