Pistons to hold tryouts for Automotion dance team

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Detroit Pistons will hold open auditions for Automotion, the official dance team of the Detroit Pistons, beginning Monday, July 18. A $20.00 audition fee in the form of cash or money order is required at the time of registration. Registration will begin promptly at 3:30 p.m. and all candidates must be present at registration. Candidates should pre-register by contacting Automotion director Rebecca Girard at 248-375-4079 or rgirard@palacenet.com and leave your name, address, age, and phone number.

Auditions will be held Monday, July 18 at 3:30 p.m. on the arena floor at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Callbacks will be on Tuesday, July 19. Auditions are open to female candidates at least 19 years of age by October 1, 2005. Proof of age and identification as well as an entertainment resume with headshot or recent picture is required for registration. Dancers should enter at the Atrium/West Entrance.

Participants must arrive on time and wear proper dance or workout attire. Black sports bras, black shorts, tights and shoes required. Baggy clothing, tracksuits, or sweat suits are not allowed. Also, full makeup and styled hair is preferred.

Audition Process: The audition staff will provide all choreography. First cuts involve performing a short dance combination in large groups and second cuts involve performing a hip hop/pom dance routine in groups of two. Finalists will be required to perform a special talent along with a pom/jazz routine. Semifinalists will be selected at the conclusion of the first and second cuts on July 18 and will be invited back on Tuesday, July 19.

The dance team, now entering its tenth season, will entertain crowds during Pistons' home games as well as making community and charity appearances. Professional dance team expectations are very high. Candidates will be judged on athleticism, ability to learn quickly, technique, and showmanship along with a number of other criteria. The commitment includes twice-weekly rehearsals, mandatory meetings and camps, all pre, regular, and post-season Pistons games, and other community and philanthropic appearances.
