Maine State Lottery Raffle Winners
Congratulations to Kenneth Waymouth of Readfield who won Powerball Tickets for a year from the Maine State Lottery Saturday night during Game 2 of the Atlantic Division Semifinal Series between the Pirates and the Connecticut Whale. Wyamouth was selected randomly from 2,000 Maine State Lottery Raffle tickets handed out to adults as they entered the game.

Darling Inducted into Pirates Hall of Fame
Pirates videographer Dale Darling was inducted as the 15th member of the Portland Pirates Hall of Fame, presented by UNUM, prior to Game 2 of the Atlantic Division Semifinal Series between the Pirates and Connecticut Whale on Saturday at the Civic Center.
After 33 seasons with AHL hockey in Portland, Darling is retiring at the end of the season. A veteran of 1,799 games, and counting, Dale has participated in just about everything the game of hockey has had to offer to the sports fans of Southern Maine. He started with the Mariners in 1977 and helped the League develop a video platform that has evolved into the standards the League utilizes today. His video pioneering led to the 1979-80 James H. Ellery Memorial Award, presented annually for outstanding media coverage of the AHL.
Darling has been a part of four Calder Cup Championship teams, two American Hockey League All-Star Classics and fondly remembers the lasting friendships forged with some of the legends of Portland hockey including Mike Emrick, Frank Fixaris, Pat Quinn, Mike Milbury, Barry Trotz and Kevin Dineen as well as countless Mariners and Pirates.
In addition to his induction into the Pirates Hall of Fame, Darling also dropped the ceremonial opening face-off, one of the few things at the Civic Center he had never done before, between Pirates captain Matt Ellis and Whale forward John Mitchell (pictured above).
Sawyer Selected as Anthem Angel
The Portland Pirates would like to congratulate George Sawyer for being selected as the first ever Portland Pirates Anthem Community Angel during Game 2 of the Atlantic Division Semifinals between the Pirates and the Connecticut Whale.
Sawyer was nominated as a result of his countless hours of work within the cancer community, consistently paying for transportation for patients to and from treatments as well as setting up community benefit bingo's and auctions.
Pictured above is Bill Whitmore (right), Vice President of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Maine, who presented Sawyer with a framed Pirates jersey during the first intermission of Saturday's game at the Civic Center. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield will also make a donation of $500 in Sawyer's to Big Brothers Big Sister of Mid-Coast Maine.
The Anthem Community Angels program recognizes community "heroes" - people in our local community who have led, created or otherwise been instrumental in small, informal activities that make our community better. Examples are building a playground, raising money to pay for something essential that a family could not afford, involvement in youth athletics, and other commendable activities.
Heart Walk 2011
The Pirates invite fans, friends and family members to join our team as a member of the Salty Pete Pacers for the Southern Maine Heart Walk. This family-oriented event blends the benefits of physical activity, community involvement, and personal giving to help raise funds for research and education.
Second year defenseman T.J. Brennan is serving as the Pirates player representative for the Southern Maine Heart Walk. Brennan's grandmother passed away after suffering a heart attack when she was only 49 years old.
Heart disease is killing people from Maine in increasingly frightening numbers. Last year alone, over 4,000 Mainers died from heart disease. That's one in every 330 residents of our state. And more than 25,000 Mainers are living with heart disease. That's one in every 50. Odds are a few of them are people you know. A friend, a family member, a loved one.
