Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Bryan Lerg's power play goal midway through the third period was the difference as the Norfolk Admirals fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 2-1, in Game Three of the East Division Semifinals on Tuesday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The Admirals lead the best-of-seven series two-games-to-one with Game Four scheduled for tomorrow night at Scope at 7:15 p.m.
Stefano Giliati scored for Norfolk while goaltender Dustin Tokarski stopped 23 of 25 shots.
The Penguins took their first lead of the series late in the first period. Keven Veilleux intercepted a pass in the Norfolk zone and broke in alone on Tokarski. He sent a shot over Tokarski's glove at 17:58 to give Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 1-0 lead.
Norfolk tied the game with the first power play goal of the series late in the second stanza. Mathieu Roy sent a shot from the high slot through traffic that hit goaltender Brad Thiessen. The rebound came out to Giliati on the goalmouth to Thiessen's right, and Giliati lifted a backhand shot over the right leg of the netminder for his first career Calder Cup Playoff goal at 15:40.
The Penguins took the lead for good midway through the final frame with a power play goal of their own. Andrew Hutchinson took the puck from his goaltender behind the Penguins net and skated the length of the ice into the Norfolk zone. He dropped a pass to Bryan Lerg, and Lerg sent a wrist shot past Tokarski at 10:20.
Despite out-shooting the Penguins 11-4 in the third period, the Admirals were unable to find the equalizer.
Dustin Tokarski (25 shots, 23 saves) took the loss. Brad Thiessen (29 shots, 28 saves) earned the win.
Norfolk was 1-4 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 1-6.
