Portland Pirates News Release


The Pirates bowed out of the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs after suffering consecutive losses to the Manchester Monarchs at the Verizon Wireless Arena April 19th and 20th. A 2-1 overtime loss was followed by a 7-2 defeat leaving the Pirates on the losing end of an opening round sweep.

Bud Holloway scored two minutes into overtime to lift the Monarchs to a 2-1 win over the Pirates in Game 3 of the Atlantic Division Semifinal Series played Monday, April 19th. The overtime victory gave the Monarchs a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of- seven series. Marc-Andre Cliche scored the other Manchester goal while Jonathan Bernier turned aside 37 of the 38 shots he faced. Mike Weber netted the Pirates lone goal. Luke Adam assisted on the goal to register the first point of his pro career.

Trevor Lewis scored a pair of goals to lead Manchester to a 7-2 win over Portland in Game 4 of their best-of-seven Atlantic Division Semifinal Series played Tuesday, April 20th at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Monarchs won the series 4-0. Holloway, who scored the game winner in all four games of the series, Kevin Westgarth, Oscar Moller, Andrew Campbell and Joe Piskula also scored for the Monarchs while Andrei Loktionov collected three assists. Nathan Gerbe and Mark Mancari scored for the Pirates.
