
Pirates Shot Down by Barnstormers

PEORIA, IL - (April 10, 2009) The Peoria Pirates put the ball up Friday night, but the Iowa Barnstormers came up with the win, 53-38, in front of a loud crowd of 3,292 at Carver Arena in Peoria. Iowa (3-0) took advantage of each of their four interceptions on the night, spoiling Peoria's (0-2) home opener.
Brian Villanueva passed for 213 yards going 18-28 with two interceptions to lead the Barnstormers. Peoria quarterback Luke Drone also had 213 yards passing with 17 completions in 38 attempts, but threw four interceptions.
The Barnstormers receiving corps was led by Errick McCown and his ten catches, 140 yards, and two touchdowns. The Pirates Dante Ridgeway caught nine passes for 99 yards and a TD while Brian Allbrooks scored four times, three catches and a rush, having eight receptions for 119 yards.
Defensively Jordan Davis led all tacklers with nine and had two picks for the visiting Barnstormers. His teammate, Tanner Varner, had an interception and eight tackles. Brandon Golder led the Pirates defensive effort with seven tackles while Michael Phillips added five tackles and an interception. Michael Lewis also added a key fumble recovery that kept the game close as the fourth quarter drew to a close.
The Peoria Pirates will be on the road for the next several weeks, before returning home against the Kentucky Horsemen on May 2nd. Don't forget the excitement starts with a 4:00pm Tailgate party followed by a 7:05 PM kickoff. Call 309-673-1000 for tickets.
