Pirates Recall Brown from Manchester; Sign Turgeon to PTO

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates today announced the recall of defenseman Josh Brown from the ECHL's Manchester Monarchs. In addition, the Pirates have also signed forward Tony Turgeon to a Professional Tryout Contract.

Brown, a 6-foot-4, 215 pound defenseman from London, Ontario, was on Portland's opening day roster this season. The 21 year-old rookie was reassigned to Manchester on October 21.

While with the Monarchs, Brown played in 18 games, scoring one goal and three assists for four points. He also had 38 penalty minutes and a plus-9 rating. Brown also played in two preseason games with the Pirates before his reassignment.

A Sixth-Round (152nd Overall) selection by the Florida Panthers in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Brown played four seasons of major junior hockey with the OHL's Oshawa Generals before turning pro. Last year, Brown was the captain of the Generals as they won both the OHL J. Ross Robertson Cup and the CHL's Memorial Cup.

Turgeon, a 6-foot-4, 228 pound left wing from Grand Forks, North Dakota, also participated in both Pirates preseason games this year as a training camp invitee.

He has played eight games with Manchester this season, scoring one goal and one point. The goal, scored on November 24 against the Atlanta Gladiators, was the first of Turgeon's professional career.

In his third pro season, Turgeon has played a total of 23 AHL games over the previous two seasons, all with the San Antonio Rampage.

Prior to turning pro, Turgeon played three seasons of NCAA Division I Men's Hockey for the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks.

Both Brown and Turgeon will be available to play for Portland this Friday night as the Pirates play on the road against the Providence Bruins.
