Pirates Hope to Fend off Predators

June 12, 2019 - National Arena League (NAL) - Massachusetts Pirates News Release

After a week off from action, the Massachusetts Pirates (3-4) travel to Orlando to take on the Predators (2-5). The Pirates got the best of the Predators in their first matchup on April 27th, winning 45-12 in a one-sided game.

Massacusetts quarterback Sean Brackett has been on a rampage over the last two games. He has totaled 16 touchdowns and 480 yards through the air, which has guided the Pirates to their best two-game stretch of the season offensively. Brackett's 61.4% completion percentage leads the NAL in that category and he is fourth in passing touchdowns with 28. The Predators are led by quarterback Bryan Hicks, who has taken the league by storm since getting his first start a few weeks back. In only four games this season, Hicks has thrown for 866 yards, 20 touchdowns with one interception while completing 60% of his passes. The Brackett- Hicks matchup will definitely be one to watch.

Pirates' fullback Quayvon Hicks has 95 yards on the season which puts him in first place among NAL rushers. He has also added four touchdowns on the year. Predator's running back Desmond Maxwell has rushed 34 times and gained 56 yards with four touchdowns. Brackett has an underrated set of legs to compliment his stellar passing skills, as he has rushed for 69 yards and seven touchdowns.

Much of Brackett's success can be traced back to the team's top option at wide receiver, Mardy Gilyard. The speedy, downfield threat is tied for first place in the NAL in receiving touchdowns, second in yards per reception, and fourth in all-purpose yards. He has racked up 35 receptions, 463 yards, and 15 touchdowns this season. Opposite of Gilyard is Devonn Brown, who has developed into an extremely reliable option for Brackett. His 20 receptions for 227 yards and five touchdowns puts him as a solid number two receiver. As for the Predators, Michael Lyons is the teams' best receiver. In only four games Lyons has caught 37 balls for 372 yards and seven touchdowns.

Defensively, each team is led by their defensive backs. Lawrence Austin and Chucky Williams lockdown the backfield for the Pirates. Austin has 36.5 total tackles, four interceptions, 10 pass breakups, and a forced fumble while Williams totals 30.5 tackles and seven pass breakups. For Orlando, Roman Tatum leads the secondary. Tatum has 25 total tackles, six pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

A Pirates victory would mark them with three-straight victories.
