Portland Pirates News Release
Lewiston, ME- The Portland Pirates fell victim to the Worcester Sharks 6-3 Tuesday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. Lucas Lessio had a three point night for the Pirates in the defeat, which extended the Pirates' winless streak to four games. Dan DaSilva had a hat trick for the Sharks, the first hat trick allowed by the Pirates since April 14, 2013 against Joey Crabb of the Hershey Bears.
For the first two periods, momentum swung back and forth game. The Sharks broke the ice by scoring first at 11:17. After the puck took a bad bounce away from Domingue, DaSilva found it and scored on the empty net. Lessio knotted the game up at 18:03 with a nice move on a semi-breakaway, catching up to a Brandon Gormley pass before making a nice forehand-backhand move to beat Sateri.
In the second, the Pirates took their first lead when Brandon Yip deposited a rebound into the Worcester net. The puck squirted loose near the blue line where Daine Todd picked it up and slapped it on net. Lessio deflected the shot right onto the stick of Yip who wasted no time notching his third goal of the season.
But less than two minutes later at 9:04, Matt Tennyson tied it up when Louis Domingue kicked a rebound right to his stick. The Pirates retook the lead at 14:13 on the power play when Lessio let loose a shot from the top of the left circle where it bounced around in front before coming to rest on Gormley's stick at the bottom of the right circle. With mostly net to look at, Gormley found twine to make it 3-2 Pirates.
But the Sharks went on to score four unanswered goals, three of which came in the third period. Travis Oleksuk tied the game just before the end of the second when he deflected a puck past Domingue and DaSilva gave the Sharks the 4-3 2:54 into the third with a power play goal. DaSilva completed his hat trick at 6:38 and Sena Acolatse scored at 16:08 to give the Sharks a three-goal lead.
With the loss, the Pirates drop below the .500 mark with a record of 15-16-1-6. Louis Domingue faced a career high 47 shots, stopping 41 for the second most saves of his AHL career, but drops to 6-2-1 on the year.
The Pirates will look to get back to their winning ways as they finish their homestand Friday against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Friday's game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County.
