Greeneville Astros News Release

Bristol, VA - The Greeneville Astros lost the final game of their three-game series with the Bristol Pirates Thursday night by a score of 4-3. Greeneville remains in first place in the Appalachian League West division, one game ahead of the Kingsport Mets.

The Astros struck first in the ballgame, scoring in the top of the first on a Connor Goedert double that brought home Myles Straw from second. However, they would not score again until the top of the eighth.

The Pirates tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Erik Lunde singled and was brought home on a Bealyn Chourio two-out double.

Bristol increased their lead in the bottom of the seventh by loading up the bases and then scoring two on a Julio De La Cruz double. Sandy Santos would later come across to score on a sacrifice fly, giving the Pirates a 4-1 lead.

The Astros attempted to get back in the ballgame in the top of the eighth by scoring two runs and bringing the score to 4-3. Osvaldo Duarte led off the inning with a single to left field, advanced to second on an error, and scored on a Ford Stainback groundball. With two outs, Connor Goedert picked up his second hit of the night on a line drive single to left field. Hector Roa then launched a ball to centerfield and wheeled his way to third for his second triple of the year, scoring Goedert. However, the rally would not be enough as the Astros eventually fell to the Pirates 4-3.

Diogenes Almengo made his pitching debut in a Greeneville uniform, starting the game and working three and two-thirds innings. In his first appearance since being moved up from the Gulf Coast League Astros, he struck out three while allowing only four hits and one earned run.

Joselo Pinales came on in relief of Almengo and pitched two and one-third scoreless innings while allowing just one hit.

Lachlan Madden entered in the eighth inning and increased his scoreless streak to four and one-third innings over his first three appearances by going for one full without allowing a hit and striking out two.

Ford Stainback increased his hit streak to eleven games with a single in the top of the sixth. The switch-hitting utility infielder now leads the Astros with a .351 batting average.

The Astros will return to Pioneer Park on Friday to take on the second place Kingsport Mets at 7:00 PM, gates opening at 6:00 PM. Fireworks will immediately follow conclusion of the game.
