March 31, 2015 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs continue to bolster their already impressive pitching staff with the signing of two East Carolina University Pirates hurlers.

Right-handed pitchers Joe Ingle and Ross Gardner, both freshmen, will be bringing their talents to the SwampDogs bullpen this summer.

Ingle, a local product from Fayetteville, attended Terry Sanford High School where he played for Coach Sam Guy before becoming a Pirate this year. His freshman season has been terrific so far: He has appeared in a team-high 12 games out of the bullpen recording a 0.69 ERA with 17 strikeouts and just five hits allowed in 13.0 innings.

On Monday, March 30, Ingle was named one of eight Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week, after striking out 10 batters in 5.1 innings spread over three relief appearances in the previous week. In receiving the honor, Ingle became the seventh Pirate in the program's history to be awarded National Player of the Week.

Gardner; a 6-5, 202-pound hurler from Jacksonville, Fla.; has been virtually spotless in his rookie campaign in Greenville. He has allowed just three hits in 9.0 innings over six appearances. Opponents are hitting just .107 against Gardner this year, and his 0.00 ERA is the only perfect mark on the team.

The Pirates are currently 17-12 overall and 1-2 in American Athletic Conference play in the 2015 season.

The Fayetteville SwampDogs are in their 15th season playing in the Coastal Plain League. The SwampDogs are one of the most successful franchises in the league's history, making the Petitt Cup Playoffs eight times in the past 10 seasons, reaching the championship round three times. The SwampDogs boast 84 alumni taken in the draft and have produced six players who have gone on to play in Major League Baseball. The SwampDogs open their season on Tuesday, May 26th with a 7:05 pm tilt with the Morehead City Marlins at J.P. Riddle Stadium. To reserve your seats for the 2015 Summer of Fun or for more information, call the SwampDogs offices at 910-426-5900.
