Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA - For the second straight week, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers used a lethal combination of pinpoint passing and defensive pressure to defeat the Mohegan Wolves, this time in a 51-26 romp at the First Union Arena.

QB Bryan Snyder, who was awarded game MVP honors for the second consecutive game, completed 22 of 33 passes for 232 yards and five touchdowns. His favorite target was again John Knust, who caught nine passes for 119 yards and three TD's.

The Pioneers dominated the early goings, and ended the first quarter with a lop-sided 28-0 lead. Mohegan regain their poise during the second quarter, however, and managed to cut the lead to 31-12 going into halftime.

The third quarter saw Mohegan cut the Pioneers lead to 12. But the Wolves were unable to close the gap any further. The game was sealed in the fourth when Kevin Nagle scored from 8 yards out and Elly Salamo hauled in a Snyder TD pass from 12 yards, making the score 51-26. Salamo's stellar performance earned him the game's Ironman award.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 0-6 just over a month ago, have now won three consecutive games and four of their last five overall. More importantly, losses by New Haven and Rochester on Saturday move the Pioneers into third place and only one game behind the Brigade for the Northeast Division's second playoff spot. With the loss, the Wolves fall to 3-8.

Next Saturday, the Pioneers travel to New Haven to take on the 3-7 Ninjas in another must-win division contest.
