
Pioneers Get a Pass Rush Specialist for Christmas

(Wilkes-Barre) The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers have been assigned former Kent State star Justin Parrish by the arenafootball2 league offices. The Pioneers also were assigned King's College grad Robert Roper.
"I'm very excited about bringing Justin on board," said Head Coach Rich Ingold, "We're talking about a guy who loves to hit the quarterback. We feel in 2008 he will be one of the top pass rushers in the af2. He's got a bright future."
The 6'2 255 pound Justin Parrish was a pass rushing beast during his three years at Kent State. His junior year he set the all-time Golden Flashes record for sacks with 14 and was named an honorable mention SI.com All American, along with second team all-MAC.
Parrish's senior year he was selected as the MAC preseason defensive player of the year by both ESPN/Blue Ribbon Yearbook and CBS Sportsline while finishing the year as a first team all-MAC performer when he recorded 8.5 sacks and 20.5 tackles for a loss while recording 96 total tackles.
"I'm pumped up for the season and ready to continue the winning tradition in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton," said Parrish from his home in Maryland, "I wanted to be a big contributor for a winning team, with a great coach and with a team that was close to home, so my family can be near by and come see me play."
Justin spent the 2007 season with the now defunct Laredo Lobos of the af2.
The Pioneers were also assigned Robert Roper from Kings College. Roper was a three year starter at offensive line for Kings. The 6'6 350 pound Lake Lehman grad impressed Head Coach Rich Ingold and Line Coach Joe DeMelfi at the Pioneers open tryout on December second with his size and agility for a big man.
