Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
Wide Receiver/Linebacker Pittman signs with Buccaneers; Kicker Samuel likely to be drafted
Wilkes-Barre, PA - With just a few days remaining until their inaugural season opener, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers announced today that one player from the team's roster has been signed by an NFL franchise, and a second is likely to be drafted on April 20th.
Wide receiver/linebacker Jonathan Pittman was signed on Monday by the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Pittman, who had attended Buffalo Bills training camp last year, was expected to be one of the Pioneers pre-eminent receivers.
In addition to Pittman, the Pioneers also announced that kicker Marc Samuel has been contacted by several teams, and will likely be selected in this month's NFL draft.
"You have to be happy for these guys," said Head Coach Terry Karg. "It's every football players dream to play in the NFL. If they have a chance to make that dream become reality, they should go for it. Losing good players to the NFL is part of this business. We just have to adjust."
The Pioneers may make additional roster moves between now and Saturday night, when the team begins its inaugural season campaign against the Greensboro Prowlers.
The opening night festivities will kick off at 4:30PM with the first-ever pre-game Fan Fest, which will include the Pepsi Interactive Fan Zone and a free performance by the musical group The Badlees.
